UAS Measurements of Atmospheric and Sea Ice Conditions during the SODA Campaign

The Alaska Center for UAS Integration (ACUASI) in the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks proposes to conduct a thirty-day UAS flight campaign from the Ugnu-Kuparuk Airport at Kuparkuk, Alaska, during the mid-September through mid-October, 2018, timeframe. The specific period of operations ideally would coincide with certain elements of the SODA campaign, including a ship-based installation and research cruise. The flight campaign will be focused on collecting atmospheric data along the flight track and mapping the physical characteristics of the arctic sea ice, as it sets in during early fall. The time period selected is a critical one as it represents the fall freeze up period when sea ice is beginning to reform over the Beaufort and Chukchi sea regions and along the coastal environment.
