Science Plans Are Now Available for AMIE, MC3E, and SPARTICUS

Published: 28 May 2010

The ARM Madden-Julian Oscillation Investigation Experiment (AMIE) campaign is scheduled to take place in and around the Indian Ocean from October 2011 to January 2012. The goal of this campaign is to provide an unprecedented data set that will allow further investigation of the evolution of tropical convection. For more information, visit http://www.arm.gov/campaigns/twp2011manusmjo.

The Midlatitude Continental Convective Cloud Experiment (MC3E) will take place in south-central Oklahoma during April–May 2011. This campaign will document in 3D not only precipitation, but also clouds, winds, and moisture in an attempt to provide a holistic view of convective clouds and their feedback with the environment. For more information, read http://www.arm.gov/campaigns/sgp2011midlatcloud.

The Small Particles in Cirrus (SPARTICUS) campaign is currently underway at the Southern Great Plains site and is scheduled to wrap up in September 2010. This campaign’s focus will determine what controls the concentrations of small particles in cirrus clouds using a new generation of probes designed to minimize artifacts due to shattering and increase precision.
