Four Positions Available with IMSG

The I.M. Systems Group (IMSG) is currently seeking to fill the following four positions at NOAA’s Environmental Modeling Center (EMC) of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) located in Camp Springs, Maryland: research scientist, scientific programmer, and two research meteorologists.

Research Scientist: Experience with numerical modeling, FORTRAN/UNIX, and a PhD. or MS (with eight years of relevant experience) required. Candidates who work well in teams, have strong written and oral communications skills, and experience with NCEP’s systems preferred. Scientific Programmer: Experience with weather and aviation weather, forecasting, statistics, FORTRAN 90/95 or C programming languages, UNIX platforms, BS in meteorology, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or related physical sciences required. Candidates who work well in teams, have strong written and oral communications skills, and experience with Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System preferred. Research Meteorologist: Degree in meteorology (MS preferred), working knowledge of synoptic meteorology and/or operational weather forecasting, and experience interpreting numerical weather prediction models required. Candidates who work well in teams, have strong written and oral communications skills, and experience with UNIX preferred. Bilingual (Spanish) highly desired. Research Meteorologist – Hydrometeorology Testbed: BS or advanced degree in meteorology, hydrology, or related earth science fields required. Strong understanding of quantitative precipitations forecasting, LINUX/UNIX, and strong analytical skills needed. Candidates who work well in teams, have strong written and oral communications skills, and have peer-reviewed publications preferred.
