Some worry that the “cloud” is over their heads, but as data sets grow larger in size, the use of cloud platforms is becoming a necessary tool to keep up. Led by Scott Collis, science lead on the Python-ARM Radar Toolkit and ARM translator for centimeter wavelength radars, Argonne National Laboratory, the American Meteorological Society (AMS) Short Course on Interacting with Radar Data in the Cloud will teach scientists how to use cloud technology to interact with radar and other data sources.

Held on January 22, the course is at the AMS 97th Annual Meeting, which runs from the 22 to 26 of January, 2017, at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, Washington. Registration is not included with the meeting registration. Cost is $50, with early registration requested by December 1.

The one-day short course gives an overview of how to use Amazon Web Services to access and use ARM data and NOAA’s Next Generation Radar Network (NEXRAD). In addition to Collis and other scientists, experts from Amazon will assist in leading the course.
