Radiosonde Intercomparison & VALidation (RIVAL)

18 July 2017 - 28 February 2022

Lead Scientist: Lori Borg

Observatory: sgp, sgp

Radiosondes provide the primary source of high vertical resolution temperature, humidity, and pressure data from the surface through to the lower stratosphere, and are a key component of the sustained measurement program at ARM facilities. As such, they are of utmost importance in their own right, but also important for calibrating and understanding other instrumentation and their characteristics. Greater understanding of the RS92 and RS41 sondes and their uncertainties is therefore essential to the mission and vision of the ARM program. The proposed activities would provide the measurements and analyses required to maintain the quality of the multi-decadal record of ARM radiosonde measurements.
