Although cloud base heights can be conveniently measured from the ground, and cloud top heights can be conveniently measured from above, the thickness of a cloud is difficult to routinely measure either from above or below, especially for optically thick clouds that cannot be penetrated by a laser. The purpose of this IOP is to test a new technique for routinely measuring cloud thickness.
