Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Lidar Remote Sensing
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Lidar Remote Sensing.
The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of 2 years and is funded through the National Centre for Earth Observation.
This project will apply internationally respected retrieval methods to routine lidar observations from the ground and space. The resulting data will underpin the evaluation and enhancement of the UK’s world-leading Earth Observation products while conducting new science. The successful candidate will:
- • Adapt existing lidar profiles to be processed using existing retrieval algorithms, supporting operations of the Bayfordbury system (and others as possible) in order to validate Aeolus products
- • Use orbital lidar data to create and assess a vertically resolved climatology of aerosol type, attempting to reconcile the different definitions of type between passive sensors, active instruments, and models
Applicants should possess, or be very close to obtaining, a doctorate in physics or a related field and ideally have a strong background in the generation and analysis of lidar profiles. Knowledge of atmospheric aerosol processes and observation methods, or any practical experience with atmospheric lidar and/or inverse methods, will be advantageous for an applicant.
