RS-90 Transition IOP

1 March 2001 - 30 March 2001

Lead Scientist: Barry Lesht

Observatory: sgp, sgp

Scientific hypothesis: The transition to Vaisala RS-90 radiosondes from Vaisala RS-80 radiosondes will have no negative impact on regular users of the Southern Great Plains (SGP) Cloud and Radiation Testbed (CART) radiosonde data, including the value-added products (VAPs).

Approach to test hypothesis: Users will be provided with parallel streams of RS-90 and RS-80 data from one dual sounding per day for a one month period to allow them to test their codes and report/fix any problems or concerns. See BCR00313 (submitted 1/18/2001).

Activity Summary

One dual sounding, flying an RS-80 and RS-90 radiosonde on the same balloon, will be performed at 20:30 Universal Time Coordinates (UTC) every day from April 1 through April 30, 2001.
