Research Interests
My research focuses on using advanced remote-sensing to better understand cloud and precipitation processes, with an emphasis on radar retrievals. I developed a Micro Rain Radar processing scheme to improve characterization of snowfall. I also showed how higher moments of the radar Doppler spectrum for ice cloud observations using ARM ISDAC data can improve radar retrievals of cloud microphysics. Recently I have been working with the Oliktok Point science team in studying anthropogenic aerosols, retrieving snowfall properties, and modeling mixed-phase clouds.
Professional Experience
ARM has profoundly influenced my career. As an undergrad, I took part in the ARM COPS campaign in the Black Forest. As a PhD student, I participated in the MC3E campaign at SGP. My dissertation was based on data from ARM’s ISDAC campaign. As a postdoc, I joined the Oliktok Point science team at CIRES to work with more ARM products. I have a pending proposal for snowfall measurements on the upcoming ARM campaigns, MOSAiC and COMBLE. I am an associate editor at the Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology.
