GOESWATER - Soundings of Dew Point and Temperature Derived from GOES Data

General Data Description
These data are soundings of dew point and temperature over the SGP CART site derived from GOES soundings from the University of Wisconsin, CIMSS/SSEC.The sgpgoeswater data are only available in ASCII. The sgpg8prof and sgg12prof data have been converted to netcdf format.
Data are missing for days in which no clear conditions existed over the CART site and/or auxiliary data (separate from GOES radiance) necessary to do the retrieval were missing.
The data stream sgpg8prof and sgpg12prof (formerly known as sgpgoeswaterX1.00) include hourly, rather than three hourly, retrievals and cover the boundary facilities as well as the central facility.

Measurement Description
sgpgoeswaterThere is a slight bug in the retrieval in that the 2300 hour from day i frequently ends up at the end of the file for day i+1. Each record does have an identifier so it will be possible to put the records in the proper place but the user should be alert for this condition.

convention for satellite and instrument number (i.e. 70 - Goes8 Sounder, 71 - Goes8 Imager, 72 - Goes9 Sounder, 73 - Goes9 Imager) The second field is the time in UTC (hhmmss). T and TD are temperature and dew point, both in K. P is pressure in millibars. Mcidas does a listing for the retrieval data at 40 levels, a surface measurement and 39 even levels above the surface. If the surface pressure is greater than 1000.00 mb, the 1000.0 mb line WOULD have information. Z is the height above sea level in meters. RT stands for Retrieval Type and takes the value 21 (clear retrieval) or 23 (low clouds were present during the retrieval).sgpg12prof and sgpg8prof
