General Data Description

AVIRIS is a unique optical sensor that delivers calibrated images of the upwelling spectral radiance in 224 contiguous spectral channels (bands) with wavelengths from 400 to 2500 nanometers. AVIRIS has been flown on two aircraft platforms: a NASA ER-2 jet and the Twin Otter turboprop.

The main objective of the AVIRIS project is to identify, measure, and monitor constituents of the Earth's surface and atmosphere based on molecular absorption and particle scattering signatures. Research with AVIRIS data is predominantly focused on understanding processes related to the global environment and climate change.

Temporal Coverage

Currently there are AVIRIS data covering the SGP Central Facility available for August 1, 1997 at 1700 GMT.

Area Covered

The AVIRIS image covers the ARM SGP Central Facility.

Each scene is approximately 10 X 10 km (20m resolution). The lat/lon for the top of scene one is 36.7515/-97.8929, which is the nadir view, center (5km to either side). The bottom of scene seven is 36.5364/-97.2968.
