Commentary:

The Ron Brown departed Darwin Harbor on time during strong 7-meter ebb tides but no seasickness was reported among the scientists. Significant engine vibrations were felt throughout the ship (several Hz) -- bad for lidars.

Instrument Status:

The Ron Brown made two 360° "pivot" turns, with thrusters, to calibrate magnetometers. The Depolarization and Aerosol Backscatter Unattended Lidar was down with networking problems. The High-Resolution Doppler Lidar is ok but with no ship motion compensation yet. The S-band went down shortly after departure with computer/control problem. All other sensors are up and running.
