Commentary:
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ship Ronald
H. Brown arrived in Darwin, Australia, on schedule on June 8,
1999, at 0900 LT (local time). By 1200 LT all Joint Air-Sea
Monsoon Investigation equipment was off-loaded and all heavy
Nauru99 equipment was on-loaded. All shipments to Darwin had
arrived intact and largely undamaged. Local support has been
fantastic
Visual Observations:
We were blessed by unseasonably cloudy and cool weather for
open deck work at Fort Hill Wharf on June 8. Subsequent days
at Stokes Hill Wharf have been clear and hot.
Instrument Status:
As of 1600 LT on June 10, no major problems have occurred during
setup of any instrument. We will be testing C-band, S-band,
and Ka-band radars for brief periods of time starting tomorrow.
The 915-MHz radar will not be tested in port due to interference
with local cellular phones; however, it was functioning well
before the Ronald H. Brown entered Darwin waters. The fourier
transform infrared spectrometer has acquired atmospheric spectra
successfully. Faulty ceilometer has been successfully replaced.
Standardized daily reports will commence when the mission begins
