Report from Nauru: July 4, 1999
|
Commentary: The Ron Brown came along side the island this afternoon, parking just offshore of the site at about 1:30 p.m. local time. There were smiles and cheers all around, as we were invited aboard for a July 4th celebration and American-type food. So we shut down early and hit the high seas. That's why we're a bit skimpy on the weather measurements for this report. We just took a well-deserved afternoon off. We will be back to normal tomorrow.
Visual Observations: It is another beautiful, sunny day. We got skunked for the dual Doppler study. It'll probably rain tomorrow, or snow. Thr skiers have taken once again to their rooms. We hear mutterings and bangings behind closed doors. I'm worried once again. Conner found his shoes. I'll keep a sharp eye on the situation. . Instrument Status: Atmospheric Radiation and Cloud Station (ARCS2) Site Instruments: All instruments are working well. We noticed some interference with the millimeter cloud radar (MMCR) as the Ron Brown approached and got within about 1.5 km or so. By agreement, the RHB shut down their unit for the duration of the close comparison for the next 4 days. Nauru99 Ancillary Instruments: All instruments are working well.
