Report from the Mirai: July 1, 1999
|
Commentary: Activities in the "small triangle" started at 09:00 LST (21:00 UTC). We had some "white-colored showers" night with no radar echo (for detail, see the report by Mike Reynolds in BNL section). The sea was sometimes rough with the black-finned wave. The film crew came in this morning and worked very hard.
Visual Observations: Fine, with some precipitating low cumulus. Instrument Status:
Most of the instruments are working well. Radar echoes were observed, but all of them were out of the Doppler-mode range. RSMAS Apart from a return of the noise problem for an hour or so this morning, all systems are operating well. The brain was taken out of the water while we moved to the "small triangle" position and has been back in and taking good data since 21:00 UTC. KUMM/Okayama University The weather was fine. The measuring systems worked well. The regular measurements (taken every three hours) of turbulent fluxes, and N2O gas density in the atmosphere and sea water were started in the "small triangle" at 09:00 LST. The measurement of CO2 gas density in sea water up to 1000m was made at noon. Solar and sky radiation, aerosols, and ocean color measurements were made occasionally under the clear sky. NIES (National Institute for Environmental Studies) and TIT (Tohoku Institute of Technology) The Lidar is operating well. BNL PRP: Operating well. NCAR Profiler operated in mixed DBS and MAPR modes. Brief showers were observed with MAPR last night. Some data were missing in sismets surface met observations, they appear to be okay now. Winds were predominantly light easterlies to 4 km, stronger aloft later in the afternoon. S-Band Observations (Boundary Layer and Cloud echoes): Surface Met Observations: Microwave Radiometer readings: Previous Days' Updates: June
