Commentary: Rain is over. The sky is fine, as shown in the image from Total Sky Imager. Some instruments for no-rain conditions are going active.
Visual Observations: Rain is over. Instrument Status:
Testing observation mode of Doppler radar, but there is no organized echo. RSMAS M-AERI was uncovered at 00:00 UTC and has been working fine since then. NIES (National Institute for Environmental Studies) and TIT (Tohoku Institute of Technology The lidar observation is continuing. Okayama Univ. of Science Turbulent flux measurements continues throughout the day in fine weather. It is working well. RAL SISTeR was briefly taken down from the foremast late in the morning for some final checks and preparations. At 16:00 this afternoon it was turned on again, and a scan sequence was executed to find a clear view of the sea. The contrast in temperature between the Mirai's deck and the sea surface was a little low, but an angle from nadir of about 48 degrees will probably be the final choice. As soon as this has been confirmed, SISTeR will start to make regular IR measurements of the sea and sky. Previous Days' Updates: |
