The inaugural deployment of the ARM Mobile Facility (AMF) will occur from March through September 2005 at Pt. Reyes, CA with the goal of studying the microphysical and radiative characteristics of marine stratus. Surface based measurements will be made with the suite of AMF baseline instruments following the same measurement protocols used for those instruments at the permanent ARM sites. In collaboration with the University of Miami, a vertical incidence 94-GHz Doppler cloud radar will be deployed. Additional collaborations with aerosol scientists will allow for the collection of 1) a long time series of surface measurements of cloud condensation nuclei and 2) in situ aerosol measurements made above and below the clouds during an intensive period of operation in July. Plans for other ground based aerosol measurements to be made during the period of intensive operations are being finalized.
