AERI Thermodynamic Profiling VAP Improvements and Status

The Atmospheric Emitted Radiance Interferometer (AERI) was one of the primary instruments developed under the DOE ARM instrument development program (IDP) to be deployed to the Climate Research Facility (CRF) Southern Great Plains (SGP) central site near Lamont, Oklahoma. A prototype AERI was deployed in March 1993 where it collected data until the first AERI operational instrument replaced it in July 1999. The ARM archive contains AERI data from the ARM CART SGP central facility site from January 1994 to the present. More than 500,000 AERI spectral radiance observations were collected at the ARM SGP central facility during the 10-year period from January 1994 through December 2004. A robust thermodynamic retrieval algorithm has been developed over the past decade to provide boundary layer atmospheric state at less than ten-minute resolution from these AERI radiances. The AERIprof retrieval algorithm VAP has been implemented at Pacific Northwest Laboratories. A DOE ARM AERIprof retrieval software technical document containing extensive algorithm has been recently published on the DOE ARM web site. This poster will present update to date algorithm status, details, and future plans to reprocess the SGP AERI radiances (including boundary facility AERI data) using RUC numerical model profiles to describe the above boundary layer atmospheric state.
