A Case Study of a Water Vapor Oscillation Event During the International H2O Project (IHOP 2002)

Tanamachi, R.L., University of Oklahoma, School of Meteorology
Fourteenth Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Science Team Meeting

This case study examines a sequence of boundary layer water vapor oscillation events that occurred over the Oklahoma panhandle on 12 June 2002 using data gathered by the International H2O Project (IHOP 2002) instrument array at the "Homestead" site near Balko, Oklahoma. The results of a numerical simulation of the weather conditions around the time period in question are also discussed. Both the observational data and numerical model output suggest that the water vapor oscillations were at least partially due to a density current/internal undular bore couplet generated by mesoscale convective complexes passing north of the Homestead Site.
