Brookhaven National Laboratory Inviting Applicants for Scientific Associate

The Environmental and Climate Sciences Department of Brookhaven National Laboratory is seeking a full-time scientific associate to conduct and assist in field and laboratory measurements of atmospheric aerosols using condensation particle counters (CPCs) and scanning mobility particles spectrometers (SMPSs). This position will be responsible for the routine maintenance, repair, and calibration of aerosol instrumentation, processing aerosol data, and periodic travel and deployment of instrumentation.

The successful applicant will be self-motivated, demonstrate clear written and oral communication, and enjoy working in a group setting in an open and cooperative manner. Requirements include:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Physics
  • Experience in the principles and practice of aerosol measurement technology using CPCs and SMPSs
  • Experience with data analysis programs.

Preferences for the position include a Master’s Degree in Aerosol Science and experience with the MATLAB data analysis platform. In addition, the position requires a valid driver’s license, availability for up to one month total of travel per year for domestic and/or foreign field work assignments, and the ability to routinely lift more than 30 pounds. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen to perform job duties requiring access to the ARM Mobile Facility at Oliktok Point, Alaska. Assignment level is contingent on experience and qualifications.
