The Cloud Processes Research Group at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) invites applications for a postdoctoral position. The successful candidate will work with a team of scientists to conduct observational studies with the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Climate Research Facility and other major field campaign data. Possible research activities include:
- Evaluating and improving state-of-the-art objective analysis methods, particularly the ARM constrained variational analysis method
- Incorporating new ARM observations into the analysis system and investigating their impact
- Performing budget studies with major field campaigns to understand the interaction between cloud systems and their large-scale environments
- Conducting single-column modeling and/or cloud-resolving modeling studies with the analyzed large-scale forcing and evaluation data sets.
The successful candidate will possess a PhD within 5 years of the month of the degree award at the time of employment offer. A degree in atmospheric science or closely related field is desired. The preferred candidate will have a background in one or more of the following areas::
- Objective analysis, heat and moisture budget diagnosis, cloud modeling, and cloud processing
- Observational data sets, modern programming environments, and visualization techniques
- Collaborating effectively with a team of scientists of diverse backgrounds
- Fundamental verbal and written communication skills as evidenced by published results and presentations.
