Fast Physics Project to Join ARM User Community

Published: 15 December 2009

In November, ARM representatives participated in a kickoff meeting for the FASTER (FAst-physics System TEstbed and Research) project at Brookhaven National Laboratory. This project is funded by the DOE Earth System Modeling program and involves ten institutions led by BNL. Researchers involved in the FASTER project will assess and improve fast processes in climate models using a combination of single column climate models, numerical weather prediction models, model results, high resolution models including the Weather Research and Forecasting Model, and observations from ARM and geostationary satellites.

Similar to the relationship between ARM and DOE’s Atmospheric System Research program, anticipated tie-points between FASTER and ARM include modeling and ingesting of ARM data. During the kickoff meeting, the team discussed avenues for sharing additional information, such as data products, for the benefit of the broader climate research community.
