After many years of service, Raymond McCord and Doug Sisterson are transitioning from the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Infrastructure Management Board (IMB). While on the board, McCord and Sisterson helped establish the ARM Program into a national scientific user facility now known as the ARM Climate Research Facility. Under their tenure on the IMB, the ARM Facility grew from three fixed locations to include three mobile facilities, over 90 instrument types, and a strong aerial component that now supports over 70 field campaigns a year with a fully integrated data archive.

“I would like to sincerely thank them both for their many years of service on the IMB,” said Sally McFarlane, DOE ARM Program Manager. “Both have been very active and engaged members of the IMB through the years and have strongly supported ARM.”

While McCord and Sisterson may no longer be on the IMB, they will continue to provide leadership through their respective roles with the ARM Data Archive and ARM instrumentation.

Two long-time ARM community members joined the IMB on October 1: Giri Palanisamy, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), who joined the IMB to represent ORNL and the ARM Data Services and Operations Group, and Stephen Springston, Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), who is representing the aerosol measurements perspective and BNL.

Members of the IMB are responsible to DOE management for their respective ARM Facility components and serve as the primary points of contact for their research areas. The board also works with DOE management on strategic planning using input from the user community as guidance and plays a key leadership role in managing the ARM Facility.
