Remote Schools Welcome Much-Needed Resources

Students at the Children’s Academy Centre in Lorengau gather as Jacklyn Soko, Teacher-in-Charge at the school, gratefully receives the donation of a new copier.Seven schools on Manus Island recently welcomed new copiers donated through ARM’s Education and Outreach program. Hymson Waffi, officer-in-charge for the ARM’s Tropical Western Pacific site on Manus Island, enjoyed the happy task of delivering the equipment to the various schools, including elementary, primary, secondary, and an academy. Each copier was accompanied by two spare ink cartridges. Students, teachers, and administrators at each school were overwhelmed by the donation and expressed heartfelt appreciation upon receiving the timely equipment.

Because of these remote schools’ dire need for resources in addition to learning materials, ARM’s Education and Outreach program occasionally provides items such as equipment and school supplies. This year, because these schools have so few textbooks—not nearly enough for all the students—many schools’ number one request was “copiers.” Demonstrating its role as a partner in the communities that host the ARM sites, this is just one example of the educational resources provided by ARM that will benefit local schools in the coming years.
