Marking the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, 2010, the U.S. Department of Energy participated in a variety of celebratory events throughout the week in Washington D.C. To support these events, ARM sent a series of new bookmarks developed for education and outreach events this coming year. The bookmarks feature images from the ARM sites on one side, and information about ARM and its education website on the other side.

A few of the events sponsored by DOE throughout the week included:

  • “Earth Day on the Plaza,” featuring hands-on demonstrations, a recycling station, music, and more
  • Lunchtime discussions about jobs in a green economy
  • EStar awards for the development of sustainable technologies and practices, presented by Secretary of Energy Steven Chu
  • Exhibits at the DOE Forrestal Building showcasing environmental and green energy activities.

At the conclusion of the events at the National Mall and Forrestal Building, materials were sent to the DOE offices in Germantown, Maryland, for one more week of Earth Day activities.
