Published: 14 February 2013

The Second China-U.S. Symposium: Severe Weather and Regional Climate Variability and Predictability will be held in Qingdao, China, on June 25-27, 2013. This Symposium is the second in a series; the first having occurred at The University of Oklahoma in February 2007. Symposium goals include defining the current state of the China-U.S. knowledge base and identifying the most important challenges for the next decade. Themes will center on:

  • Extreme weather and climate
  • Simulation of mesoscale phenomena
  • Severe weather processes and predictability
  • Climate predictability at seasonal-to-interannual timescales
  • Long-term (decadal and beyond) climate simulation and projection.

Abstracts are now being accepted and are due April 15, 2013. Abstracts using data from the ARM Mobile Facility deployment in China are highly encouraged. Registration will open shortly and registration fees will be waived for all U.S. attendees. Travel assistance grants will be available for 15-25 U.S. presenters and can be requested as part of submitting an abstract. Questions about abstracts should be sent to Hongmei Tang for China- and other Asia-based scientists and to Tracy Reinke for U.S.-based and other scientists.
