General Overview

The Solar Infrared Radiation Station (SIRS) provides continuous measurements of broadband shortwave (solar) and longwave (atmospheric or infrared) irradiances for downwelling and upwelling components. These 1-minute data are collected from a network of stations to help determine the total energy exchange within the Southern Great Plains site.

Note: The current SIRS instrument suite was preceded by the ARM operational broadband instrument suite and by the Solar and Infrared Radiation Observation Station (SIROS) instrument suite, which included the MFRSR. The change to SIRS occurred in 1997-1998.

Output Value-Added Products

This instrument is an input to the following value-added products, which provide improved measurements or derived quantities.

  • sirs1dutt : SIRS: derived, correction of downwelling shortwave diffuse hemispheric measurements using Dutton and full algorithm

Output Datastreams

  • sirs : Solar and Infrared Radiation Station (SIRS): broadband shortwave and longwave radiation
  • sirs60s : Solar and Infrared Radiation Station (SIRS): 60-sec data
