Measuring Clouds at SGP with Stereo Photogrammetry

15 April 2014 - 30 September 2018

Lead Scientist: David Romps

Observatory: sgp, sgp

Stereo photogrammetry has been added to the SGP ARM site through the siting of two ARM Cloud Digital Cameras (ACDCs) at the Central Facility, to provide three-dimensional cloud data in the form of the Point Cloud of Cloud Points Product (PCCPP). The PCCPP will: provide context on life-cycle stage and cloud position for vertically pointing radars, lidars, and radiometers; provide high-resolution cloud-surface context for scanning cloud radars; and set the stage for the routine measurement of the 3D structure of cloud boundaries, convective vertical velocities, cloud life cycles, cloud-base heights, and cloud-layer winds.
