Submitting Proposals
NOTE: Proposals for smaller campaigns this fiscal year, and forward, are still being considered. We are no longer accepting preproposals for use of the AMF and AVP services in FY 2010; invited full proposals are due May 15. Preproposals for routine use of small aircraft in FY 2008-2010 at the Southern Great Plains (SGP) field site are no longer being accepted; invited full proposals due April 1.
Proposals for conducting field campaigns and scientific research using the ARM Climate Research Facilities at the Southern Great Plains, North Slope of Alaska, Tropical Western Pacific, ARM Mobile Facility (AMF), and/or Aerial Vehicles Program (AVP) are welcome from all members of the scientific community. The ACRF is an ideal platform on which to develop and test new instrumental approaches. Activities conducted by ACRF users may include a visit to one of the ARM sites for informational or educational purposes; an effort to test or validate new instruments; a short-duration period of data acquisition or a longer, more permanent type of data acquisition effort. Users wishing to initiate a request should submit a Field Campaign Preproposal Form.
For field campaigns that are larger and more complex, request for preproposals will be published in journals in the spring of each year. Preproposals are due February 1 for these campaigns, with invited full proposals due May 15. The ACRF Science Board will review the full proposals in the fall. Informal, smaller preproposals will be entertained at any time. Proposal research should be relevant to the ACRF Mission.
Proposals will be reviewed and ranked on scientific merit by the ACRF Science Board. Applications will be ranked based on the scientific objective of the research, the requested resources, and the impact on ongoing site operations. If extensive support coordination is anticipated, applications should be received at least one year in advance of the anticipated start date. As a general condition for use of the ARM facilities, users will be required to include their data in the ARM Archive. The data policy for the ACRF is derived from the policies of the U.S. Global Change Research Program, which encourages "free and open" access to data and research results from government-sponsored research.
